A Lost Songbird

by Biscuit   Jul 10, 2006

Life bursts forth;
greeting fate with darkness.
Elegant and beautiful.
The pheonix sings.

An unexpected surprise,
the harmonious creature
voices not a melody but
Baa Baa Black Sheep.

It melts in the ears,
floats in the air;
takes me away
to my fantasy island.

But it's hopeless I fear
for I'm lost here,
with three bags full
and a pile of singing ashes.

    I loved the last stanza... It was gorgeous.. The rest was a bit rocky, but I liked it nonetheless.

    Biscuit --
    I gave this poem a 4/5. The flow was pretty good, but I just didn`t understand the intent of the poem. It really made no sense to me ;; but it was well written, keep it up. 4/5.

    I find this a very interesting play with words and nursery rhymes. I found it a bit difficult to follow at times, but it's quite good nonetheless.

    Interesting little poem. I particularly liked the last stanza with the play on Baa Baa Black sheep and the phoenix left as a pile of singing ashes.' rather than it's usual hopeful image.
