Prayer tree

by nicole   Jul 14, 2006

Won't you come sit with me
beneath this prayer tree
planted so long ago
through time its beauty grows

its weathered good times
smiles and the sun
its weathered bad times
and sad times
tears sweat and blood

many a man bent his knee upon
a gnarled root head bowed and hands bent of Gods guidance in pursuit

fervently she the tree worships God all day as she lifts her arms to pray
she holds the lives of creatures in her arms the branches giving shelter to keep them from all harm

many a sweltering man took refuge under her branch
many a little girl under the stars would around the tree dance

many a little boy climbed that tree for fun
many a furry squirrel ran there to escape the sun

many a mother kneeled to pray for her child many times did the Father
look on this and smile

many a tear did He shed for those crying out to Him in pain
many a smile did He show
for a child on their own beginning to pray

many a heart broken person
would come to cry their tears there
many a time this tree sheltered someone a branch as a bed always to spare

many a time one would come seeking
to find something more
many a time they would go away
knowing they had found it for sure

many a time someone would scream at God from beneath this tree many a time they would leave praising God that now they were free

many would hit the tree in frustration wanting to take out they're aggression
being mad at the world but really at themselves bottled up was they're true passion stuck on this worlds dusty shelves

God took them by the hand clean them from inside out take they're feet from this rugged path and set them straight upon the right route

all of this takes place beneath this prayer tree planted for God
upon one quite similar for us all He shed His precious blood

so wont you come and sit with me beneath my prayer tree for a while
we ll bow our heads and bend our knees and remember all those that are yet to come here with a frown and leave here with a smile
