Atheist's Whisper

I come right into this world,
Into your insubstantial arms.
You promised to hold me safely,
And keep me away from harm.

I prayed to you with despondency,
At the wake of every night.
Hoping this time you would answer,
Saying everything will be all right.

It didn't faze me when you never answered,
I was just solitary all those melancholy times.
Because, in fact, you never did say,
"We'll get through it," as you desiccated my eyes.

It's indignant that I put so much faith,
Into something that doesn't exist.
That I relied on you so willingly,
I just should have ignored your so-called bliss.

Why does the truth ache so much?
When it was there all along?
Maybe it is the anguished thought,
That I have no concept of where I belong.

I want to reveal my feelings,
To every one I know,
But they wouldn't accept me,
They would cast me away if I showed.

It's a painful secret to keep,
Something sacred that I hide.
"I'm an Atheist," I whisper,
But it's only meant to stay inside.
