UNFETTERED

by Gary Jurechka   Aug 21, 2006

Under drifting night clouds
a lone wolf howls
from a high sentinel cliff,
as the last unicorn runs
wild and noble and free
in the indigo moonlight,
the nightbirds weave
sweet flowers in his silky mane,
as nostrils flare and snort exhilaration,
while gallopng through forests of dreams,
over land and sea and air,
free of care and worry and fear,

for the dark lion sleeps tonight.

Well, I loved it. I have to start with that. I read all the messages as well..and I just wanted to say, that we all have that poem we are not particularily fond of, that others love, and we cannot fathom why. We loved them briefly, then under inspection, they just didn't hold up to our own personal standards. But, you have given us exactly what we want, that sigh of relief, that fleeting escape into another world. Thru graceful, vibrant imagery, you painted a fairytale with words. If if had't won, I never would have had the pleasure of being able to read your other work, as I intend to do. You have an amazing talent to weave words into emotions and images. Simply beautiful!

When the dark lion sleeps, he is getting too much rest.....meanwhile, we make hay while the Sun shines...for when he roars up out of his lair, rested and Hungry......we had better be Strong....and Unified.....
