Goodbye My Lover

by Jessica   Sep 4, 2006

Kisses softly placed on each cheek
Salty tears replaced by a plastic smile
Quickly loosing all ability to speak
This violent war better be worthwhile..

Trying to be brave, saying her goodbyes
Forcing back the little drops of pain
That seem to be flowing from her eyes
Falling as rapidly as a downpour of rain..

Bravely fighting for what he knows is right
Holding on through every injury and struggle
Continuing on for her, his beautiful shining light
Hoping for just one more warm delicate snuggle..

A year gone by, a formal letter does arrive
Carefully ripping open the light cover
The other half of her soul did not survive
Taking what meant most to her, her lover..

He died fighting for what he believed in
Saving millions of lives, letting children live
Being the best soldier there, just trying to win
A soldier and a husband, giving all he had to give..
