What Lies Behind The Mask

by Anthony   Oct 13, 2006

You whispered a name
To find no one answered you.
You screamed out in pain;
Your heart ache will not undo.

But you put it away,
And pulled out your mask.
If you can't see the pain,
Then no one can ask.

But more things come
When you're hiding away.
You can't even get
Enough breath to pray.

Fear of the future,
Fear to lose and to fail.
Fear of whats to come,
You want to let out a wail.

Still it all goes behind the mask,
And the happy smiles remain.
While your walking around,
Don't you dare to complain.

But the mask's getting heavy,
It hurts even more.
And soon it'll break,
And emotions outpour.

And the pain and the fear,
Just engulf and consume.
Because holding it in,
Has now sealed your doom.

And you see all your friends,
They're so happy and you,
You are so miserable,
And don't know what to do.

They won't understand,
Cause they don't have these problems.
And none of them will even
Know how to solve them.

So you run away,
Cause your emotions are choking,
They won't let you breathe,
And you're praying and hoping,

Screaming and crying,
You're down on your knees,
And god will not listen
To your begging and pleas.

So you pray for death
That will surely not come.
And it feels that this
Nightmare will never be done.

And you scream and scream
But its all in vain
Cause all that screaming
Won't relieve your pain.

And you try yo give up,
But you're stuck in this loop.
And theres not a damn thing
That you can do.

And that angel of mercy
Won't come to your rescue.
But the good news is,
I'm stuck here with you...

    A beautiful poem.
I think everyone sometimes want to hide behind a mask, so it's reality.
A great piece of writing with a nice flow, well done.

Great job anthony. You though it, caught it, and wrote it with this one. Those times when we don't want pitty, just answers. Wishing for that pain to simply vanish. Hidding behind that mask, wanting so deeply for it to be reality.
