This chaos was mine

by beautiful roadkill   Nov 20, 2006

I open my eyes
and try to remember,
everything lost
beneath flame and ember.
the fire so
captivating,
the city
illuminating.
i made it burn,
i started the fires.
the whole city engulfed
until the flame tires.
i lit the matches.
there was no accident.
now they all suffer
for this wicked event.
the press will cheer
as lovers weep.
hearts will perish
in the fires keep.
now its dark as
ash fills the night.
one small flame
is the only light.

a bruised and beaten mother
recently lost her spouse.
alone with daughter,
refusing to leave the house.
both are weeping in mourning,
never hear a sound.
as tyhe flames of my fire
burn their house to the ground.
through dust and ember
she pushes her way out.
missing her child
she begins to shout.
numb to pains
as her child screams.
both are lost in
each others dreams.

Sitting on the floor
was a lonely man.
acknowledged by no one
a gun in his hand.
the revolver so cold
pressed against his head.
now her can see as
my flame glows red.
the flame rises.
swallowing whole.
the entire body,
of this poor mortal soul.

escaping his guardians
he hides alone.
from abusive parents
he lives on his own.
searching for love
wild in his heart.
a teenage pain
emerges from the dark.
longing to embrace
the girl from his dreams.
he suddenly awakes
as my fire screams.
