"On the topic of love"

Life changes right beneath our very feet, and love comes and goes with the ease and flightiness of a bird. Drifting into our lives like the gentle river, and then ebbing like the tide at sea. When you believe its there to stay, it leaves at the next opportunity it is given to do so, leaving you empty handed, and lonely hearted. Causing wrenching pain, and anguish at the fact that the rose of love you were given to grasp was deception at its finest. At first, blinded by its beauty, but you will later come to the realization that said rose has not but thorns to offer to you, and you will only receive scratches for your efforts. Such a seemingly wonderful thing, love, will in time turn up its sharp edges, wounding to the core and gouging into the soul. Also, is the flaw of impermanence that plagues the heart, causing turmoil within. Nothing will last forever, and such should not be expected, save for in that perfect world which does not exist. Only in the imagination does love last forever, and only in the dreams in heartbreak but a distant threat. This, is the plain and simple truth that brings me to the deduction, that I cannot allow myself to accept the words that you would offer to me, without at least a hint of wariness, for I have been touched by the pain of heartbreak, and am no longer living blissfully in a life of ignorance. I have been broken down by those who would claim the same that you would. That they are not like that, and that their love is eternal, but being on the other end of this I would beg to differ. So, such is my experience that love never lasts forever and promises will wisp away with the passing of time and in the end I will once again be alone. Some would argue that I would have happiness, and that is truth. Were I to accept your love, I would obtain happiness for a time, but never would I possess joy.
