4 Short Poems of Spring

by Corinne   Dec 31, 2006

Who would think
That petals of pink
Would make me smile
Would make me glad?
Or yellow blossoms
Upon a tree
Would rescue me
From the Isle of Sad?

Who would think
That I would write
So simply, not trying
To be profound
Who would think
That I could sing
Sing without making
A solitary sound

****************************

I can put petals in my pocket, my love
And later, place them in your palm
But it's not the same
As walking through the garden
With you, linked arm in arm

****************************

It seems I am too late
For the lilacs
Like myself
They are past their prime
But wait - there is a cluster yet
And it is fragrant still
Perhaps I too
Can stand outside of time

****************************

If I could lay me down in a wood
Let roots entwine each limb
And allow chlorophylled grass
To cover over my corpuscular skin

I'd gladly give up this human life
Absorbed - transformed and be
Nourishment for this green world
And return all it's given to me

All 4 poems were written the same day as I walked through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. That is why I felt they should all be together as one cohesive piece
