I'm Afraid That I'm Afraid of Intimacy

by AGirlWorthFightingFor   Feb 25, 2007

Yes, I know that things will change,
I want them to.
For better or for worse,
I don't care,
I can't keep pretending to know what will happen.
All I know is that I love
and if afterwards
we love eachother
or hate eachother
or can't stand to see one another
or are too embarrassed to speak to one another,
well, that would pretty much leave us right back where we are now,
because love or hate
would be so much better
than this
indifference
and
longing
between us.

I really like how this is so conversational, and yet still poetic. I think people often worry too much about making things sound "like a poem..." and then they end up just sounding forced, where this was very natural. I also this this poem ended nicely - a good slowing down to a concise ending.
