Why Do I Care?

You treated me wrong,
You hurt me.
I let go of you,
Or at least tried to.

I had forgotten you one day,
Until I found out,
You were in pain.
Then I found myself caring.

Why do I care?

I ask myself this question,
as I ride to the hospital to see you,
I go in and see you in pipes,
I begin to cry.

You see me and say "Hi."
I just nod my head as my reply.
"Why are you crying?" he asks.
"Are you okay?" I say.

"I'm okay." he answers.
I stare at him,
And he stares at me,
He grabs my hand,
And pulls me gently.

"I'm sorry I hurt you," he began.
"I didn't mean to, I just
Tried to show you I care.
But it was the wrong way."

Why do you care?
Why do I care?

I care because you care.
