The Well Beaten Track

by Bethan   Apr 24, 2007

Must we all walk the same beaten track,
Raise our heads and not look back,
Must we all plod, that well-worn path,
Potholed and scarred in aftermath,
Must we all repeat the same mistake,
Knowing two wrongs a right not make,
Is there none among us willing to learn?
Instead of watching us crash and burn,
Is there no-one who'll stand up and speak
Or are we all too afraid and weak?
Is there not a trailblazer to be found,
To create a new path on solid ground?
Forget all heroes and knights of old,
Our Saviour's in us all to behold,
We must choose ourselves which path to lead,
But of warnings we must take heed,
Don't choose the path that's led to this,
The old-worn trail to the abyss,
It spells our end this path we follow,
With no assurance for tomorrow,
The world right now needs to stop,
Before we reach that fatal drop,
Our world now is our demise
Something we don't all realize,
War, crime, killing, and poverty,
Will be the end of us all you see,
We have to find our guiding light,
To lead us to a path that's right,
So let us build a new foundation,
That may lead to our salvation.

*By the way although the poem may seem slightly 'religious', it's not at all.The idea of a new path is simply that. The world in it's current state is terrible. With all the wars and pointless deaths everyday, not to mention global warming our extinction will be a lot sooner than anyone may suspect. AS we are all aware poverty, famine, genocide. war etc. are all products of our stupidity as a race. I just hope we all can wake up and realise that we are killing ourselves, before its too late*

    Very good Gaillard. It was a powerful piece that provoked thoughts and feelings. There were many lines and rhymes that I liked, but I think these ones were my favorite;

'Is there not a trailblazer to be found,
To create a new path on solid ground?
Forget all heroes and knights of old,
Our Saviour's in us all to behold,'

Well, I think we're done here. It's nice to see you writing again though. Good work...as usual, as i'm sure you don't need me to tell you.
