In Joy and Sorrow

Her breath is tainted with nicotine and whiskey,
And she laughs as she says: "Look at me!"
I admit, her hair wasn't perfect, make-up was a mess,
But she did look flawless in that little black dress.

"Prom night, we ran off to his old black Chevy,
Fogged up the windows, when he looked at me,
He said: 'I know I don't have a wedding band,
But take this High school ring off of my hand -

This is my promise to you babe, in joy and sorrow,
I love you today, but I'll always love you more tomorrow'
But I looked at him with tears lining in my blue eyes,
And whispered: 'Tomorrow never comes, it's a lie!'

Laughing, he said: "Tomorrow never comes, you're right,
Which means that everyday is today, along with each night,
And every second, I will love you more than the start,
Your face, it will always be the reason of the beat in my heart."

She sighed as she put the picture back in the frame,
And with tears in my eyes I asked her for his name,
But with a smile she turned, as she began to cry,
"You don't recognize your Dad?" She asked, a tear in her eye.
