The fight you cannot escape

Is it uncommon
to see your best friend die?
look now into their eyes
...know them
...laugh with them
...enjoy knowing them
because when you look again
their eyes...

...lifeless
...motionless
...amazed

look at them lay
dead as a tree

war did this
after years of living
only to lose
all your friends

(War... it's too cruel)
