The Day My World Came Crashing Down

I think back to the day you left me
Mostly, I was clueless to it all
I knew something was wrong,
But I thought it was something small.

Little did I know that day,
Of the pain I was about to endure
When I received your last text message,
I went rushing out the door.

Driving down the road,
I wondered what it could be
Why would you say goodbye?
Were you really breaking up with me?

None of it made sense,
We had fun the night before
I knew you definitely loved me
Of this, I was completely sure.

So as I drove to our place at the park,
I was hoping you'd be there
So we could talk about the problem
And I'd show you how much I really did care

Slowly pulling up to the entrance,
I saw cops and EMT's running by
I thought about continuing driving,
But a black truck caught my eye

I jumped out of my, now parked, car,
Looking at the scene curiously
"A guy just took his life tonight"
I heard so vividly.

"Please tell me, sir, the name."
I screamed at a cop ahead.
"We cannot tell you anything,
Except that a young man is dead."

I told of how I was looking for my fiance
I described him perfectly
A detective walked up with caution
and said "Miss, please come with me."

It was at that moment I just knew
That something was very wrong.
I fell to the earth in a rage of tears
There was no way I could stay strong.

The entire day was all a blur
I was never able to understand why
I can't believe it's been three months
I never even got to say goodbye.

But now I know only time will tell
What will happen to me
I'm counting down the minutes
When I too will finally be free.
