Roll over Beethoven

by Espoirfailed   Jul 3, 2007

Geniuses never needed guidance,
And while you still have humility left, I'll remind you of that.
But as the apple fell from that tree, Newton knew what he was aiming at.
Your wallet was always a few short
Of the pennies that rounded up to the next pound.
You might not know how to write letters,
But you can manipulate music; you can sure work with sound.

And as I breathe, dear, I'm just breathing you in.
Don't mind me; I won't be here long,
I'm just window shopping.

Do you know how much I loved that song-
That you sang to me as the stars danced like infants.
You strummed that old guitar, like it had one night left.
We made that one night the best,
But you probably don't remember.

Finishing off with a slow minor chord,
I whispered in your ear "Roll over Beethoven,
Boy, you're gonna be a star."

But you probably don't remember,
Because, now who you are,
Isn't who you were.

Wow, I didn`t see this poem ending the way it did, but I am truly amazed at how it did. Left me kind of speechless as mostly all [if not all of] your poems do. I love your wording, it always captivates me and keeps me wanting to read more of every poem, but they do have to end; which is shame when it comes to a writer such as yourself. Great job.

The wording is excellent, and the whole poem holds a lot of emotions.
    I especially like the ending.
    My favorite lines are:
