What if it were me

by Tammy   Aug 26, 2007

I look around this world
greed is all I see
materialistic people
not focusing on the need.
What happened to the love
for our fellow man?
This world is so selfish
it's hard to understand.
What if it were you
living in the street
with people walking by
spitting at your feet?
Would you feel differently
if you were hungry and cold
forgotten by this world
left to die alone?
I'll leave you with a challenge
when you see someone in need
I beg you to ask yourself...
What if it were me?

Very well thought out and written. I don’t agree with the spitting at feet though as I think it’s more apathy from most people. Your poem rings true though, that the down trodden are rarely helped. Maybe one day the helpers will outnumber the treaders... hopefully

Nice food for thought, Tammy..people so love to turn away from misery, until it comes knocking on their own door..then it's a totally different situation, off course!

    Well done,

Very good poem, and a simple truth, to many can't replace the one in need with them self. We have a "it can't happen to me mentality" or a "it's their fault" I loved the poem Tammy.
