Our hands

by selene   Oct 16, 2007

Lay your hands on mine but
no longer mine are the hands
you lay them on
the sand sweeps us from our feet
as we sway
lifting arms into the water, and i
expected you to stroke
but you never did

i should have done
all i should have done
that i wish i had done...
for i remember, you and i
beneath the light sheets
rain flooding across our spines
and inside, whispers shook
oh, how we laughed was
loud and hard, until we
gasped for air

did i do everything i could?
i'm wondering
on my back, in what was once
the bed of you and i
where we brushed fingertips
within our palms
now i reach, i find them
touching...
touching nothing
