Think For Them

by C Cattaway   Dec 21, 2007

Christmas comes, but once a year.
We raise a glass. We're filled with cheer.
But thoughts betray us.. (Bacon's grilled).
Who thinks of those, still being killed?

(The turkey's stuffed. The wine is poured)
Whose wife is that, just gone aboard
To see her dead son; husband too,
Who fight, when there's no need to do?

(Unwrapping gifts, beneath the tree)
Her tears so full, she cannot see
The dog-tags they have given her.

Who brought gold, frankincense, or myrrh?

Do we not see what's there to see?
Is your present worth more than me?
A stranger fighting in your name;
Unsure why I must go insane?

Will my poor family be alone,
Not knowing if I'll return home?
Will you forget the morning news?
D'you really care, come win, or lose?

Is the true meaning of the dawn
Of Christmas lost, or will you mourn,
That Jesus Christ was born that day,
So He could die, and take away

Those sins, that I now fight again.
(You eat a turkey you've not slain
Just so we can all celebrate
A day for presents, that your mate

Has put a little thought into).

I hope you have a merry day, too.

The conflicted, ambivalent, and deep philosophical feelings on life's most complex issues that you represent in this poem are much appreciated by me...

God. *ducks head* That was wonderful. What happiness can we feel while others are mourning? 5/5
