What I Could Not

by Talie   Apr 21, 2014

I never signed my life away,
I always knew I could
Instead I chose to live my life
As only the ignorant would.
I never kissed my loved ones
And bid a bittersweet adieu
Because I knew it could be my last,
Yet I saddled up because I should.
I never knew that I could cry
And feel such depths of despair
For a brother who wasn't of my blood,
But paid Charon his fare.
I saw how they drank to their mind's content,
In an attempt to silence their demon's cries.
And I chose to stand and mock
Because I loved when I saw them fall,
Though I hate the shameful walk.
And the guilt I feel inside,
I chose to live my life in ignorance,
Because they gave what I could not.
