Runaway Groom

by Jack Nightengale   Jul 11, 2014

I'm supposed to be going to my wedding today,
My bride should be walking down the aisle in pink.
Instead of being there, I'm running away,
Down at the bar still ordering a drink.

This is my big day but, i cant help but feel blue,
Why can't I move forward, why won't these memories fade?
I can't help but feel that she's supposed to be you.
Needing to cool off under the summer suns shade.

Why can't my mind erase you and let me be?
Why does your face haunt me at night when I dream?
Am I that naive or just to blind to see?
Must I continue to travel this lonely river upstream?

I got my plane ticket and i have my pack,
Still I feel this uneasy gloom,
I've gone too far now, there's no turning back,
Normally brides runaway but, this time its the groom.

Running away is never the answer, it causes more problems than it does solves. Still, this was excellently written, the flow of it was nice and so was the rhyming. Good job.
