Ghost Choir

by Baby Rainbow   Jul 16, 2014

I held onto so many possessions
to keep alive the memories of
previous beholders, but all
that did was breathe life into my
grief.

They became a dusty collection
of tombstones inside the graveyard
of my room; I wondered why I
could never sleep at night.

And so I got rid of every
souvenir that ever kept me awake,
let go of all the memories
that came alive when I closed
my traumatised eyes.

But to this day, I still cannot
fall asleep because the graveyard
remains inside my mind, and I
am the only soul alive amidst
a choir of singing ghosts.

Unique! Ghosts are not a topic a lot of people write about. With objects in general, I think the ones we keep are special to us or hold a meaning deeper than anyone knows at all. I do understand that sometimes thoughts of the past can be haunting. And that in turn makes your grief come alive. The eerie feeling is enhanced well with the wording. Using tombstone and graveyard really connects well to the poem and the ending. Nice set up. The ending is brilliant I feel. No matter what the ghosts seem to be apart of your dreams and memories. Plus a choir tells me there are many ghosts each one apart of a certain object. Well done.
