Creativity follows a path into darkness

by Darren   Jul 18, 2014

**found, resubmitted and edited, **

When darkness guides me by the hand
should I listen?
When my face contorts with pain
should I cease crying?
When confidence departs in droves
should I follow?

There is a tower on a hill in my mind
that has a place for me,

A club for one,

The veil of darkness disguises my path
A voice calls quietly, in every reflected image
three months of pain is never enough
to feed this poetic beast
residing intrusively in my mind.

One day I will no longer stare through mirrors
searching for what I could have been,
I will look at my own reflection
accept what I am
maybe stop yearning
for my lonesome club.

The questions you ask are great to enhance the idea of the poem. When you feel sadness there seem to be many questions to ask. Like should i ? But this holds deeper meaning. I think here the questions ask should I fall deeper into depression or is it too late to find happiness. I loved the imagery. Especially the crying part because when we cry we don't want anyone to see. The statements to go with the questions are wonderful as well. It seems like at this point you have already fallen into darkness.

The mind part is interesting and can be interpreted in a few ways. The way I saw it was that with feelings (especially inside) no one truly knows what you are going through. So it really is "a club for one" yourself. As in you yourself are the only one who can know your true feelings. I really liked the small glimmer of hope at the end. Accepting who you are is difficult especially when you feel depressed. So that hope is inspiring. Like you will get better. Great write!.
