I told it only to the wind

by leilani   Aug 30, 2014

I feel myself fading but at the same time I feel safe.
You may be far away but you are always with me.
My friend who was always carried my words like a soft wave.
The only one who would listen then leave me be.
One who cannot speak but has much to say,
One whose voice is heard only if listened to.
Like mine, your voice is silent to those who care to look your way.
So we listen to each other there's nothing else to do.
You are the wind and I am the grass.
Lifelong friends who have spoken to each other in secret.
I don't remember who went down first but I know what's come to pass.
I know that I made a promise, as did you, and I intend to keep it.
Now we are here; laying next to each other in ruin.
We are here waiting for our bodies to weaken.
To pain is too great, too fluent.
While I burn and you stop to breathe,
We each tell a secret before it ends.
What you told me is too important to me,
And I will not share it...for it was my secret and I told it only to the wind.
