Stella nobis non concessit

Tell me, girl of the stars,
when did you learn
that my soul was a mirror,
and my skin made of frost?

Even more so, I cannot fathom
why you didn't abandon me
after learning that to me,
love equals cruelty.

Even if we were fiends
addicted to the noise
of our chaos playing
our heartbeats off-key,

why did you continue dancing
past the lanterns of midnight hanging,
and into the vast darkness
of empty oblivion made clear;

O tell me, girl of the stars,
why did your light only
serve to make my shadows
more clearly defined,

O tell me, girl of the stars,
why did your light reach me
only to invade my tunnel vision,
and then begin to fade?

O tell me, lingering avatar of lost promises,
why didn't the stars forgive us?
