Scavengers

Desire is that sense of need warped by longing
a frenzied feeding zone for predators
who prey on your shortfalls
gifting you sweet-
nothings.

resentment
the fuel of a hardened-
core-frozen by deceit and longing
which has long since torn apart the purity
of a soul that once longed, for something true and wholesome.

This poem is so deep, it is so sad that people go through life this broken way, where they no longer trust love, or goodness, and they stop believing they deserve happiness because they think it will never be theirs.

Really nicely worded, keeping each line together and interesting.

    Love the title choice!

For this to be such a short poem, it holds a lot of emotion within. The first stanza speaks of desire - that feeling of need taking a hold of you. Maybe needing to feel loved by someone yet they only use you, preying on your kindness.

The second stanza is about resentment - holding all of that anger in and allowing it to resent that person for how they treated you. The bitterness has made your core become hardened and frozen. You are no longer the pure soul you once was, searching for something/someone who was true and could offer true love, as well.

    Great job!

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on this poem Hannah I really appreciate that :-) and yes you've hit the nail on the head that's exactly what this poem is about, having loved and being betrayed and becoming hardened against love, yet it's also basically a metaphor about life in general, people tend to have high hopes and expectations for certain things in life, then one day those things are ripped from your grasp and you're left disgruntled and broken and having to try top remain strong through it all :-)
