One for my Dad

by Sophie   Dec 15, 2014

It's been 5 months
I haven't said a word
Neither have you.

Who's fault is that.
You don't know.
Or maybe you do.
I didn't tell you.

It's because you chose drink.
You chose it over everything else.
My patience has run out.
But I'm scared it's too late for you to get help.

I don't understand how you think it's ok.
To shy away of what you have become.
I need you to handle your problem.
I do love you but just once.

The pain it causes.
Is just too much.
Why can't you see
You're so out of touch.

The shouting
The fights
I want to block out.
They're not something most hear about.

How's it going to change without you getting help.

Please Daddy I just want you back,
All to myself.

Addiction is a hard thing. I'm sorry your going through this... I too, have gone through this. But I wasn't there for my father. I was told lies to make me ignore him, which I did (very young age).

I regret ever listening to my family because I know I could've saved my father.

He passed away in 2002. I lost him when I was 13yrs of age, and hadn't seen him since I was 7yrs.... Parents divorced... very nasty one.

Go to him, and don't stop. Tell him how you feel and that you want him to be in your life and more importantly to walk you down the aisle at your wedding and to see his grandkids.

Losing someone to addiction is a great pain but sculpting something so beautiful out of this pain is just great! Love the poem!
