A Dae to Remember

by Matt Carroll   Feb 10, 2015

The tears we've shed since you departed
Have led us towards despair uncharted
The dark of night most cruel of all
Such emptiness that fills these halls

Our cries, they fall on silenced ears
These looks of pain that confirmed fears
More often than not we take for granted
The seeds of love which life has planted

Your time has come, and though it seems
We're left with naught but broken dreams
They couldn't be more than sharpened lies
As you smile down from in the skies

Though you were called home, your spirit remains
Your love never left us, it eases our pains
The memories we hold are a good place to start
Your presence is stronger than ever at heart

Through the love of your life, the blood of your sons
Your legacy carries and your spirit, It runs
Wild and free just as the man that we knew
A father, son, brother, friend and lover so true

In loving memory of Dae Poteet
Dedicated to his friends and family

This is just Brilliant! your thought of playin on words, Dae and Day, was just brilliant.

A very sad poem, I am always overwhelmed by poems speaking of human loss.

You did so well expressing your emotions, the scheme was nailed and so was the flow.

Your last two lines summing up who he is and wht he meant, each of you have lost a role he played yet mutually lost this person and what he meant.

May his soul rest in peace, this was a great poem to read. Sorry for your loss.
