All That Remains

by Kakera   Feb 24, 2015

We won't find peace in forgiveness,
regardless of who of us would try.
Serenity is the smoke rising
from the embers of all that remains
of our contact with the living,
as it becomes ash

Driven by barricades
between you and yourself,
between me and my past;
beyond the shallow wishes
and ambitions
of love

For all I know is cruelty,
my blood has always been cold.
All I know is destruction,
that grew up not in a cradle,
but in a forsaken casket

Traveling with light feet
dragging behind us in the sand,
we drew lines to bind our beauty
to the emptiness of continuity

We wore razorblades on our smiles
the last time we kissed
before we put up these walls,

And my lips still bleed
as I know now naught
but defeat, and exhaustion,

wishing to drift away from everything,
like the smoke and ashes on our grave

Great word choice!I can relate to this and you have a great use of metaphors, impressive to say the least!
