Soul of a Dead Star Waltz (shape poem)

by Larry Chamberlin   Mar 16, 2015

You dance, leading me rhythmically,
in a slow waltz at three/four time,
while I lag behind at six/eight,
never hoping to catch you.

I feel my essence drawn out
in spirals, whirling around you,
deeply drawn by inescapable pull,
melding into your core being.

My particles pass an event horizon
and are totally reintegrated into you,
while reflections showing our former life
fountain red shifted into the cosmos.

Still, that tune draws me along,
so I will sacrifice all that I am
and keep dancing with you
for a millennium longer.

Play solar winds, star brass,
nuclear strings, play on forever!
We will wander the galaxy together
as long as any matter remains with me.

When a person loves their dancing partner with heart and soul, it can make a heart feel like they are less than the other. because the love for the other rises so high, however the joys overcome the insecurities within and happiness prevails... I may be way off on my amaryllis of this poem by Larry, but it's they way I felt while reading.

My intent was to depict Tightening and Stretching as in a dance where the partners rhythmically approach and pull away.

A lifeless star has been given a feeling which still lives on and remembered...I feel that sadness penned between the lines...touching.
