Hypnophobia

by Saerelune   May 5, 2015

One AM -

How I wished there were monsters
underneath my bed -
one flick of the lightswitch
disclosing the sweater of Loch Ness.

Two AM -

I wake up in persperation,
clutching my sweater like a little kid.
Can't sleep when they're watching me;
ready to feed my soul to the devil.

Three AM -

He's not there, he's not there.
Knows they touched me;
they touched me everywhere;
touched me everywhere.

Four AM -

Four AM.

    Such a remarkable topic to write about, the poet captured the essence of fear of sleep very well. Strating from the neat, well arranged structure and the referral to loch Ness from the start, she could direct the thoughts of the reader to follow the ascending rhythm of fears with full suspense. Time passes, and at a certain point we lose contact with time for that frightening feeling is much overwhelming.
    More than excellent writing

    You have described this so well!

    I like your title choice, great fit for the poem and I am sure one which many people on here can relate to -- I know I can!

    I like the way you have set the poem out with the time before each stanza, showing that you are still not able to sleep and time keeps passing slowly as these thoughts and anxieties overwhelm you with powerful memories.

    Your ending is powerful with the repetition, and the tone speeds up. It is almost like you are going into panic mode/flashback mode of hallucinating that it is real.

    This poem really highlights the stress of PTSD too, not sure if you were aware of that when writing, but it is what springs into my mind while reading this.

    Really good poem.
