Once upon a never, i was free.
Once upon a never i was innocent and gay.
Once upon a never i had a happy childhood.
Once upon a never i was understood.

Once upon a time, I ran away to a bright new day.

    *"to a bright new day" maybe?

    Anyway, I love this piece as sad as it is, although the last line promises hope. Powerful stuff. I love the switch from "never" to "time", which, as above, is the crux of the hope in the poem.
