Power of Hurtful Words

by Baby Rainbow   Aug 27, 2015

This might come as a rude awakening to you,
but I am choosing not to fight any more
to keep you in my life.
There is no mistaking that the love has gone,
and I'm not prepared to face the pain approaching
when what you fight for starts to fall too far behind you.

Saying goodbye was never part of the plan,
but nothing seems to work any more,
and your words keep kicking me to the gutter;
even though you can't even recall
the hurtful words you said to me.

But not remembering you spoke them
is not a good enough excuse,
because the power of your words
could always make or break me,

but lately all they do,
is break me.

    A moving piece, Saffie, as usual.
