Dinner for One

by VP Cruz   Aug 28, 2015

Since we first met, I find it still frightens
Of how we'd finish, each others sentence
Our home overfilled, when love was plenty
But like the cat's bowl, it now remains empty
Our favorite spot, when things were divine
We'd greet the night, with glasses of wine
Your sparkling smile, in your see through dress
My soul livens, in ways cannot express
We'd break for a picnic, on our usual hike
Handlebar flares, on the double bike
No more sudden garden hose showers
The garden wilts of the unpicked flowers
Your sun hat and glasses, how you tried to look cool
Your screams of surprise, when pushed in the pool
On the hammock at night, each other keep warm
In quiet I stare, when asleep in my arm
No more morning and goodnight kisses
Locking the door, during your bathroom business
No meaning in life, left to fulfill
It is as if, time itself stood still
No more popcorn, remote control rights
Showering singing or late pillow fights
What I most fear, when the day is done
Is when I prepare, only dinner for one
