Speed Dial Pen

by Baby Rainbow   Aug 29, 2015

I have my pen on speed dial
because it's my emergency contact
when emotions begin to rise.

All the things I never used to say
come flooding through the ink
and land upon this page.

I don't need you to tell me when it's over,
the message I hear was loud and clear -
and you didn't even have to speak a word.

I know you are never going to hold my heart,
because you are not my sunshine
on a rainy day any more.

You are just another piece of writing
on the walls of my heart,
and I no longer memorise every line
that has been graffitied on them,
for I no longer care
who walks in and out...

... as long as my pen
remains on my speed dial.

    Hello Saffie,

Your writing is so creative and the layout a pleasure to behold...

I have my pen on speed dial
    because it's my emergency contact
    when emotions begin to rise.

This verse hooked me in. Unique simile of a pen and phone. Both important and needed close by, just in case...

All the things I never used to say
    come flooding through the ink
    and land upon this page.

Writing our feelings down is all important when delving into our past and at times the present. The release of the intensity/ pressure as the words 'land upon this page' is true.

I don't need you to tell me when it's over,
the message I hear was loud and clear -
and you didn't even have to speak a word.
    ^
The anger and frustration is clearly illustrated. The part 'message I hear' you may want to consider 'message I heard was' or 'message I hear is' Just a thought...

I know you are never going to hold my heart,
because you are not my sunshine
on a rainy day any more.

Great metaphor here with a twist too. Sunshine meaning support/ life giver in times of hardship.

You are just another piece of writing
on the walls of my heart,
and I no longer memorise every line
that has been graffitied on them,
    for I no longer care
    who walks in and out...
    ^
My favourite part here is 'graffitied' this shows an unwanted emotional marking/ scaring. This also shows the passage of time. The writing once prominent, now just writing like any other and in fact some of it is hard to recall as it has faded and is no longer painful.

... as long as my pen
    remains on my speed dial.
    ^
The pen is mightier that the sword and you will always have your pen to combat any and all foes present and past.

Well done Saffie, keep on writing...

    Take care,

    Michael

"I have my pen on speed dial because it's my emergency contact when emotions begin to rise. " - that's a brilliant line, Saffie, and a great piece.
