It's Just a Fly in my Dish Water

by Maple Tree   Sep 3, 2015

The window appeared narrow,
These eyes don't focus like they should.

I wash dishes, it's routine and a duty I perform daily
But I wander like a daydreamer does.

Beyond the eastern trees is a place that
Goes to every village I've been before.

Conversations change as years unravel,
Forgotten moments become new revelations.

My sanity changes, eyelashes drenched
In rain of cluttered emotions, I'm drowning
In sorrow that nobody knows exists.

Reaching for the last spoon to scrub,
I see a fly floating in the water, was I resurrected?

It's a moment that happens often at the sink in my lonely
Kitchen.

Shake my hands three times, ring the towel,
Turn off the light and walk away....

    Hello,

a wonderful observational piece, albeit looking inwards in more way than one. You really have captured a mind that drifts back and forth in a wayward way, especially when performing mundane chores. My mind drifts when making love...*coughs*

    As for the fly...
don't shout or they will all want one!

Seriously, a good reflective piece and nominated from me.

    Take care,

    Michael

I can't seem to form much of a comment either. The emotion in this is profound and my heart goes out to you. Each line speaks softly of this free spirit weighed down by sorrow. Wanting clarity perhaps, or a more solidly paved road.

Just know you are not alone in anything <3

    I enjoyed reading your piece.

    My sanity changes, eyelashes drenched
In rain of cluttered emotions, I'm drowning
In sorrow that nobody knows exists.

Funny how much can go through your mind doing the dishes. this verse really touches the heart.

    Nice job!

So often in our routine is when we learn about chaos. This poem broke my heart, Andrea. You have the past, present and future displayed so well here. I can't really seem to form a comment, I just feel heavy. Your emotions are very apparent here. <3 Loves to you!

I don't remember ever reading such a sad poem written by you. I can relate so well and I can picture washing dishes and looking through the window and all the moments that seemed forgotten are back. Tears are running down the face while dealing with sorrow others don't know exist.
I can see a lonely kitchen that once was a place filled with life and laughter. Nothing will last forever. You did such an amazing job with this sadly I used all my votes. This deserves to win.
