Forgetting Us

by Baby Rainbow   Sep 22, 2015

I wish I could stop holding on
to wishing I had let you go.
I just got in the way of
your perfect idea of happiness.

I cover my eyes
through the dark road not taken,
so I won't see how much I hurt you,
because I know I really hurt you.

I travel into the silence
and wonder if you will meet me there,
or if you'll be nowhere to be found.

And if you want to leave it all behind,
I'll stop sending postcards through Heaven's door.
You can let go now;
erase the sound of my voice from your mind,

but if you choose to forget me,
please don't forget to leave my heart.

I wish I could stop holding on
to wishing I had let you go.
I just got in the way of
    your perfect idea of happiness.

^ I think a lot of times we feel troubled by someone who we love and we always blame ourselves when we lose them. We always want that one person to be happy but in that happiness sometimes we find sadness. I like how you pulled the reader into the story, and you told the side of your sadness.

    I cover my eyes
through the dark road not taken,
so I won't see how much I hurt you,
because I know I really hurt you.

^ No one wants to know that they have hurt someone so deeply. I like the imagery to let the reader see how you are feeling inside. you hide your eyes, not wanting to see what is about to happen. I compare it to someone listening to music to shut out the world. same difference here I believe.

    I travel into the silence
and wonder if you will meet me there,
or if you'll be nowhere to be found.

^ You wonder if this person will follow your sadness and wonder if they will still be there for you at the end. but the feeling of the piece so far is no they will not, because they have never seen this side of you yet and maybe you don't want to show them this side of you at all.

And if you want to leave it all behind,
I'll stop sending postcards through Heaven's door.
    You can let go now;
erase the sound of my voice from your mind,

but if you choose to forget me,
please don't forget to leave my heart.

^ This is a great ending in my opinion. You will stop sending letters to heaven ( where this person resides in your mind). You always want this person to remember who you are, but I can understand that you want this person out of your heart, to ease the pain of having them there. overall this poem was great, and it did well to speak the message of what you were trying to say. 5/5

This poem evokes a sense of emptiness, loneliness and pain. Emotions well conveyed. Love it.
