Voices of Doubt

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 16, 2015

Time spent far apart from you
leaves all the voices of doubt
calling out to me.

I know you tell me a different story,
but when you are gone, I miss you,
and I still wonder why you came my way,
why you still let me get closer?

I've been waiting for the moment
when you suddenly realise
that you would be happier
without me in your life.

So I remain silent as a butterfly,
scared that you will run away
from the real girl behind the mask,
stuck inside the fear of losing you.

Time spent far apart from you
leaves all the voices of doubt
    calling out to me.

^ This person seems to be in love with someone and time spent away from them seems to hurt them more than help. There is a voice of sadness within this stanza. There is a hint of death or just living far away in another country, either way as the reader I can understand the pain felt here.

I know you tell me a different story,
but when you are gone, I miss you,
and I still wonder why you came my way,
why you still let me get closer?

^ You always miss the one you are close to or love deeply. I can tell that this person has been close to someone before and they don't want to let anyone close to them, but since they did they are hurt even more. why did they let you get close, I think we all feel that way when we get hurt.

I've been waiting for the moment
    when you suddenly realise
    that you would be happier
    without me in your life.

^ There is more doubt here in this voice. More hurt, I think this person has been left before, and now they are waiting to be hurt again. I think though if this person really loves you they will stay with you no matter what you have been through. They will love you for you.

So I remain silent as a butterfly,
scared that you will run away
from the real girl behind the mask,
stuck inside the fear of losing you.

^ I love this ending because it fits so well with the rest of the poem. You don't want to show your truest feelings because you have been hurt before. But that is a double edge sword, because you don't want to get hurt, but you might get hurt anyways. 5/5
