Avoiding Sleep

by Baby Rainbow   Dec 13, 2015

When I lay all by myself after dark,
monsters come to visit me all night long,
and I know my eyes are never closing now.

I can't find a delete button for my nightmares,
and my mind continues to make movie scenes
in my dreams of unspoken fears.

And I can't attempt sleep
when my mind is reinventing my past,
and I find myself standing in the fire,
burning in the flames
of the truth I never knew.

    Dear Saffie,
    This is an Intense write.
the poem reveals a real dark and scarry space,
The whole idea that something dark lurks in your dreams which will attack when we are vulnerable and asleep - that really makes me get the chills-
Cant imagine a plight where someone is so controlled by the fear wherein you would want to avoid sleep in totality.. really scarry thought.

Great imagery the following lines- the helplessness is vivid.
I can't find a delete button for my nightmares,
and my mind continues to make movie scenes
in my dreams of unspoken fears.

    Nice work.

    All the Best.

    Jay.
