Wake Up

by Liz   Mar 19, 2016

I hear laughter
and it makes me cringe.
They receive good news,
but all we get are
eyes full of sympathy.
All we get are hopes, maybes,
possibilities.

I watch you
in hopes that maybe,
possibly
you see me.

But

I can't find you
in your eyes.
They're bruised,
distant and...
I never realized
how alike our eyes were.

My chest aches
thinking about your mind.
If it is even still there
behind those dull eyes.
I wonder if you're even
trying
or if you've helplessly given up,
like a buzzing fly on a
windowsill-
entombed on the other side;
alive,

dying.

-

the result of a long, sleepless night on a very uncomfortable chair.

Oh. I have missed to check out this beautiful piece. This is restlessness beautifully presented in a form that left me feeling restless for a bit. To suffer the same because of your words. Excellent!

This is a breathtakingly unique piece that summarises what sleep deprivation can do but it cam take do much more. I visualised how ill a mind can be once that sleep deprivation takes over, I too have felt it and I felt it in this piece.
Nobody can tell of the worries that make us the person we are. All in all.

    Take care, Em

Thought provoking emotional poem. For me I visualised
Something much deeper than someone deprived of sleep. An image of so much more going on and the awareness of seeing the reality of what was in a mirror of herself either for real or reflected in another. A very well deserved win

    Hi Liz,

Congrats on the win. I can see why this won, so much emotion oozing out of your words. I hope things are a bit better now!

    Love always,

    Ingrid *big hug*
