Starlit Grief

by cassie hughes   Apr 2, 2016

I can see the sparkle in your eyes
begin to fade.
Like starlight dimmed within a blanket
of the moon's pale shade.
The glimmer left is not enough
to keep my hopes alive,
and when the last mote disappears,
I surely won't survive.

I dare not face this world without your light
to guide me through.
It's twisting, turning galaxies are nothing
without you.
For underneath your warm regard and love
I reached the sky.
So tenderly you nurtured all my dreams
and helped them fly.

I thought we had forever in my young
and naive heart.
You'd show to me the universe and
all its wondrous parts.
So I was lulled into the notion we could
take our time
Immortal in my ignorance and blinded
to the signs.

I missed the slow diminishment, the failing
of your glow.
Ignored the warnings of my heart,
I didn't want to know.
But now it's over, nothing left for me
to do or say.
Except to stand here helpless,
as the starlight fades away.

    Hi Cassie,

I see this is personal from your comments and I can tell as the emotion is raw and heartfelt. These kinds of writes always seem to be good as the reader can connect to them.
Your rhyming scheme made the flow smooth.

    Hello Cassie,

You have mixed your usual detailed writing with your usual effortless flow in this piece. Sad, but beautifully written.

    All the very best,
    Ben

      Thanks Ben.
As I said to Michael this was a very personal write so I'm glad you liked it, I wasn't sure if it came over as too maudlin and trite.

    Hello Cassie,

    Wonderfully written.

I realise this is a sad write, but the bitter sweetness is hypnotic. 'The twisting turning galaxies ' is a great way to compare how much this loss means.

    Well done,

    Michael
