Blow the House Down

by shadow   Jul 10, 2016

My world is crumbling.
Brick by heavy brick it all starts to fall.
I lie down in the rubble,
Weighted by the reality of it all.

I find no solace ,
In the hopeless thought of starting anew.
Instead I let myself drown in the tears,
Mourning the loss of a life I once knew.

My lips want to say goodbye,
But my heart is still holding on tight.
Memories of old friends surround me.
Voices battling between wrong and right.

If I had a choice,
I would have built my walls out of thin paper and straw.
Watch their fists pound down the door,
And breaking in to find my true self there in the raw.

If I could take back the time I wasted.
Let them break these walls easily.
I'd see the world beyond the facade I made.
My soul exposed for all to see.

But instead I kept building it up,
Until it reached the clouds in the sky.
And I piled all my problems behind it,
So no one would ever see me cry.

Now my world is crumbling.
All the bricks are falling away.
As the dust settles,
My problems will be on display.

A dramatic title and a dramatic read. The rhyming throughout is excellent and the end is particularly moving.
