I really enjoyed this poem. As always even though this is an older poem, you told a great story from three short lines, and metaphors.

I thought it was interesting that you used 'rock' here. I believe you are trying to climb into a relationship or perhaps trying to save one. But deeper than that, I believe you used the word rock because it is hard to do so. Of course you leave the readers imagination to ask what happened. Another use for rock could mean that they were rock or the person you leaned on for support.

Sadly there is not a lot you can do when your partner decides to leave, you should let them leave. But you can kind of tell the love this person has, you are attached to this person but they want you to let go.

Going from the title after reading the poem, I think it reads as this person's love did not want to climb out of the trouble your relationship had. You tried to cling to rock but unfortunately you ended up falling. Well done

Thanks, Jamie. Love of another is the rock. If a person doesn't live you, it'd best not to cling to them.
Thanks for your praise worthy comment.
      Take care.

    Hello Michael

This poem left a lump in my throat. It hit me square in the face as so many of your short pieces seem capable of doing; it's brilliant work.

    All the very best,

    Ben

Thanks Ben, everyone. I think these short pieces are the product of spending too much time in my car.

    Dear Michael,

I love this poem, because you said so much with so few words.

    not the climbing kind (syntuit)

    ^^
Heh, I so admire the British for their sense of humour. Even with this seriously sad subject, you managed to find a title that lifts the spirits :-)

    fingertips claw rock

    ^^
By using this metaphor, it is clear that at great personal cost, you tried to save the relationship.

trying to cling to a love
    that wants to let go

    ^^
Yes, that is how it goes, unfortunately. The harder you cling, the faster the other will run from you. Only in complete freedom will true love flourish. Trust is the key word here, without trust, you have nothing...One has to trust the other without reservations...as I trust our friendship to last forever :-)

    Well done,

    (((hugs))) xx Ingrid
