Bukahbun

There are places that know us well now,
places that learned all of your jokes, and all
my laughs, that learned the names of
the people we dislike, and the movies we fell
in love with, and the reasons we used to
have fights.

There are places that listened carefully to us
while we whispered then kissed, while we ordered
our favourite meals, while we walked and sang.

Those places know your words,
know why you escaped every couple of weeks
to see me, know what makes you jealous, what
makes me upset, what ties us together.
Those places heard us planning to make love
on warmer days.

I cried in a cafe yesterday. In the bathroom.
I sat alone for an hour in our seat. I lit a cigarette
but couldn't give it to you.

You left those places. All of them.
It's hard to face them without you. It's hard to
think it might rain and you won't be there to hold
your jacket above my head. It's hard to know
I won't sing to you again.
It's hard to move on, to be strong alone, to
dream for a better life that doesn't
include you.

Such a beautifully sad write. Losing someone that used to share your very air is incredibly hard. Your write so poignantly spoke that. Well done and congratulations on your front page win.

Thelma, I am an absolute sucker for love poems and this one is just my style. I can relate to your words as if I was still 24 and had just met my husband and fallen in love with him. We had a painful breakup but ultimately got back together, so I can relate to your poem. Thank you for a tender and meaningful piece.

Thelma, this is a gripping, heartfelt and sincere piece. I guess many people can relate to with losing someone though not the actual content as that (I feel) is pretty personal.

The opening few stanzas is pretty sweet and telling of the first few days, weeks or months of a new love that to me is a little secretive, maybe its an affair or one thats just not allowed because of the person 'escaping' to you every couple of weeks. They speak of the fights, secrets and joys of a new love then the last two stanzas bring this piece to a tragic end and I'm not sure if this person died or just left without a trace but either way you feel you cannot go on without them because they were special to you but in time you will become stronger without them in your life.

A wonderfully written yet tragic piece.
    Well done.

Your title intrigued me so I googled it and did not come up with anything that I felt tied to the content of the poem so maybe it's a made up word you shared...perhaps you could pm me?

I just loved the story, it seemed genuine to me and you set the stage very well...the place you shared so many moments together...the place where you now go, sadly to reminisce ...BIG sigh!
