Buried

by JLT   May 8, 2006

Once upon a lonely night,
I cried myself to sleep..
Nothing new, yet neither old,
I'd grown immune to the sorrowful weep..

I silently waded through memories,
Hoping you would someday return..
But the lock you left upon my heart,
Has left me here to yearn..

Though I know you'll not be mine once more,
I'll never let anyone take your place..
I won't allow security,
If not formed by the feel of your comforting face..

I paid a visit to your bed today,
It made me smile to see how you peacefully lay..

Though your ears did not hear the words I spoke,
I know your heart had marked my every word..
As I sat there by the stone proof of your faded existence,
I talked of all the things you never got to learn..

And the roses that I left there for you,
Were filled with the sweetest scent of strengthened love..
As a way of saying "No matter what,
You'll always be the one I'm thinking of.."

I could feel you in my arms once more,
And my eyes overflowed with locked up hurt..
But my dreams were crushed with blurred reality,
When I saw my hands were stained with dirt..

Wow, strong poem. Very heart-wrenching...and your choice of words are absolutely perfect throughout. It really gave you a sense of just what mood you were trying to portray. Very nice, Jess. I always thought you were a wonderful poet. I stand by that thought 100% because it is now an obvious fact.

    Take care, k??
