The Bridal Stone

by Rikki

Uncertainty of the future in her mind
Her heart pounding within her breast
Counting the days she had waited
The day she longed for was here

Her mother and sisters rushing about
Plaiting flowers into her golden hair
All in preparation for the ceremony
As upon the marriage stone she sat

Slowly the priestess drew the symbols
Mystic signs, crucial and so essential
Without the sacred symbols all will fail
Nothing must falter or be left to chance

Ochre with wild sweet honey is mixed
Painted on her lips to make them sweeter
Dressed now in virginal white and gold
Softly the chant began her nerves atwitter

Though the smoke of the sacred flames
She slowly walked with quacking knees
To stand smiling upon the bridal stone
For from this moment her new life begun
