Midnight lights and blueberry skies
match the smile on your face
and the twinkle in your eyes.
Forever we sit there, thinking out loud;
between the neon stars
and the golden clouds.
But I grip onto your hand as I'm afraid to fall;
the world may be ending and we won't know at all,
but for now that's okay, I'll take it in my stride,
because there's nothing more precious than a father's pride.
You try to play music, but it doesn't seem to work
and even though you're angry, I can't help but smirk.
You notice and laugh, it doesn't matter today;
this moment between us makes it up, perfectly.
Your hands are like rock heads, old and disguised
and mine in comparison is little-boy sized -
but held together like a heart, we're one in the same;
by blood, by bond, by skin and by name.
Blueberry nights and midnight skies
match the twinkle on your face
and the smile in your eyes.
Together we sit there, grinning out loud;
between the golden stars
and the neon clouds.
