The fruit gauntlet contest

Okay, you may have noticed a few fruit inspired acrostics from me lately. Craig had an idea for a 'fruit gauntlet'

If you would like to write an acrostic poem, using a named fruit below, let me know on this thread.

The contest will run once we have 6 contestants. First to join gets their pick from the fruit bowl:

    1. Orange -Rania
    2. Apple - YA----NA
    3. Grapefruit
    4. Strawberry - Ben P
    5. Lemon - Andrea
    6. Pear - Em
    7. Apricot
    8. Peach - poet on the piano
    9. Watermelon - Craig
    10. Mango - Larry

The winner will be picked by me and will receive a fruit basket (not really!) A nomination from me for that poem and a comment on a poem of their choice.

Okay, what are you waiting for you fruity lot! :p

P.S. let me know here which fruit you want to taste/ choose. Once 6 fruits are taken the contest will start.

Your pineapple acrostic made me laugh out loud at work and then I saw the other fruit-related pieces and I'm like what in the world. Although, I was low key hoping you would mention how fantastic pineapple is on pizza ;) That's a whole controversy though for another day.

I rarely write acrostics so this will be fun! Although if we post what fruit we want on this thread then even if it's posted anonymous, people would still know based on the list. So should we pm you the fruit or just go ahead and post here?

Hmm, I hadn't really thought this through.. .

Ok. It's only a bit of fun. I'll amend the rules above to reflect your suggestion. Thanks, I feel like a right plum! ;p

Pick a fruit and I'll add your name above. The moment we have 6 pieces taken you can post your poems on this thread.

Thanks, guys. Your names are against your chosen fruit.

Now we have enough contestants, it's time to get creative. I will be picking the winner once I'm back from holiday. I leave tomorrow (Friday evening uk time) and will announce the winner when I return next weekend. If anyone else wants to join, let me know as we still have a few juicy pieces left.

I will keep an eye on this via my phone.

Remember, I'm judging so what would appeal to me?

    Good luck, everyone.

Praying desperately for her to bless me
Eve lets me taste her sweetest fruit.
At the alter we bow down to each other
    Curved at godly, inconceivable angles
Here is where women become goddesses.

    Mango

My wife tears into her mango with great pleasure
    as juice runs down her chin, wiped before dripping;
nicety goes out the window with this fruit,
    gooey slobbering is the only way to enjoy it;
oozing pulp and sweet nectar - heaven’s ambrosia!

    Strawberry

    Softly, now, the meadow hums
To the melodic sway of summer's
Rapture and I sit beneath this
    Ageing willow's weeping arms
With cream and juicy red rivulets
    Besmearing my sun-kissed mouth,
    Eternally sweetening the season's
    Rhetoric; a harmonious discourse is
Reached that (with a sprinkling of sugar) old and
Young are well versed in at this special time of year.

    Lemon

Listening to rainfall within a silent
    evening, I gracefully capture the
    moment
    of
never ending peace and a glass of lemonade.

    Orange

Orange was the winter sun as I
ran for salvation in the eerie dawn.
An apparition rose out of the blue,
nestling against my ashen soul. As though
ghosts are tirelessly behind me, trying to
ease my solitude ever since you were gone.

    Watermelon

    Wistful memories of replayed scenes
    Attention of detail to everything
Taste so sweet and so fleeting
    Everlasting is not this thing
    Reminisce I can and must
Memories of things I cannot trust
    Every desire and lust sated
Left to my own choice and so berated
One taste of nectar for one week mind
Never again for me to find

Well done, everyone, you've created a tasty fruit cocktail. As I look over to my fruit bowl on the kitchen table I can see 3 pieces left. It's a shame to leave them to rot. If anyone want to join in, let me know.

Poet on the Piano - Peach

I found whittling the entries down to one, almost impossible. Claire and I read them more than once. We found all poems to be inventive, creative and the visuals swam from the page. As our mouths watered we laughed and sighed. Thank you, all for taking part.

POTP - you will receive a nomination on this poem (if posted) and a comment on a poem of your choice. *applauds everyone*
