To Paint The Crowd With Roses

by Ben Pickard   Feb 19, 2018

The flowers bloom below the sun -
the spring has quashed the gloom.
The winter's gone and done is done;
I dress these wounds anew.

The sky fell down upon my head -
the lightning burnt my course,
but let me put these weeds to bed
and offer my remorse.

The blades of grass aren't always green -
the sky not always blue;
but I won't dwell on what has been,
nor tread on what I grew.

Embrace the warmth - the summer comes -
it lifts a heavy cloud;
I will evolve and will become
a rose that paints the crowd.

    Wow, I will keep saying that you use beautiful rhyme in your poetry, Ben. I think the majority of the rhymed poetry that I read here is forced rhyme, but somehow you manage to always know how to give music to your poems without sounding forced.
    The poem flows so beautifully, and the image in it is outstanding and unique.

    I really enjoy your poems. You're a wonderful poet!
    Thank you for giving me the chance to enjoy this :)

      Thank you so much, Nee. Your comment means a lot to me as I do predominantly write in rhyme.
      I do agree that the trouble with that is it can come off as forced but if I ever read a poem back that I have written that doesn't sound natural, I tend to throw it away and try again!
      Take care
