Truth In Winter

by Ben Pickard   Apr 29, 2019

What does "I love you" mean
when the light is balmy with summer's haze
and the scent of jasmine soaks the air around us?

What does whispering the word "forever" prove
when it snakes so serenely from the parting
between your luscious lips?

"I am yours" deceives
as it finds footing on the breeze
and the branches of the laden trees
and is caressed amongst the fruit
and the rustle of the laughing leaves.

Tell me this again when your chattering teeth
are gripped by winter's cold and honest freeze.

Loved the ending to this :) and your use of imagery. How you always bring in nature to your poems.. I liked the expression " the scent of jasmine soaks the air around us " and the " laughing leaves" .....

Good reading your poems again Ben!! :D

Ben.. First I'd like to apologise for missing this... It's an amazing write and I feel you're getting so much more confident at these 'prose' and seeing you throw a little rhyme here and there did make me chuckle because I thought out loud in a cilla black voice.. "that's our Ben" lol
    Take care x
